It was William’s first birthday party on Sunday. Thanks to his cousin, Katya, he had plenty of fun with some helium balloons.

At work I sit next to a Clyde supporter called Tony. As well as being a football club with one of the shortest names in the United Kingdom (pipped to the top spot by Bury), there is an interesting story about the club relating to a footballer whose contract was terminated early and was paid off to the tune of £30,000. A whine about wine

It was Natalie’s birthday last weekend and we dropped William off with my parents and nipped down to the south coast for a pleasant stay in the Westover Hall Hotel in Milford-on-Sea.

Overall we had a lovely time…apart from the wine. The wine itself tasted fabulous. What made me spit feathers was the ludicrous protocol adopted by the restaurant for locating the bottle itself. Read the rest of this entry »

Joomla! is very cool

About five years ago I set up a couple of websites, one for my rugby club and the other for a charity I am involved with for people like me who have had a particularly nasty operation on their bowels. In those days, the only show in town as far as open source content management systems were concerned was an application called PHP Nuke.

PHP Nuke was a bit clunky and took a little bit of getting used to, but it knocked the socks off maintaining a website by hand using HTML. It also allowed other people to maintain sites, something which has been hugely beneficial to my rugby website, which actually looks rather smart after I found a suitable theme.
